Crafted with Care
(This is a side story to The Anniversary, a short visual novel I made for last year's O2A2 jam! I recommend reading it first!)
A young pastry chef and his coffee shop pal figure out how to cheer up a beloved mutual friend having a rough day. ☕
This little visual novel was created for the Videotome Jam 2 following its "Love" theme - in this case, exploring the platonic love between very dear friends and how people express affection in different ways. I used the Videotome game engine (thank you Freya for making such an awesome tool).
All writing, art, and sound effect created by myself. Music is Moving On and Sunset Serenade by my partner, Chris 💖

it's amazing how many wonderful illustrations you did in such a short time, they're full of story and help draw out the emotional color of your narrative.
you do a great job interweaving excellent little tasty bits of characterization throughout your dialogue in a way that's just a joy! if there's one word I could use to describe the writing here it would be "exuberant"! and that fits exactly how I know you as a dear friend as well.
yet again, I love the view of the world your works represent: of effusive love and boundless care blanketing the struggles and challenges of life. I could spend so many words describing how beautiful it is, but if I could send any message it's that I want you and everyone else to know the stories you tell are truly special!

I think this is a good kinetic novel short!
Took me about 10-15ish minutes (admittedly I was taking my time and eating lunch too). Compelling, relatable, evokes emotions, has lots more art than I expected, and kind of a dreamy atmospheric soundtrack that fits the moment.
And without getting too deep in the details, the scenario lines up surprisingly close with a special day visit I had last week.
